Discover Portugal’s Silver Coast – Beaches, History & Hidden Gems

Welcome to Villa Baia, your peaceful retreat in Alfeizerão, nestled along Portugal’s stunning Silver Coast (Costa de Prata). Just minutes from São Martinho do Porto, this is the ideal base for discovering golden beaches, medieval towns, and cultural treasures – all within about an hour’s drive. Whether you crave beach-days, scenic walks, or historic exploration, the region offers it all in one breathtaking stretch of coastline.

São Martinho do Porto: The Jewel of the Silver Coast

Located around 110 km north of Lisbon, São Martinho do Porto is one of Portugal’s most picturesque seaside towns, famous for its scallop-shaped bay and calm, family-friendly waters. Protected by cliffs and dunes, it’s a serene contrast to the wilder Atlantic beaches nearby. The town blends natural beauty, a charming promenade, and authentic Portuguese character – perfect for those seeking a relaxed coastal escape. According to Visit Portugal, the clear, sheltered waters make it ideal for children and nautical sports.

Beaches of the Silver Coast

One of the great pleasures of staying at Villa Baia is the abundance of beaches nearby. Each beach offers its own rhythm from tranquil morning swims to vibrant coastal evenings with seafood and sunsets.

Praia de São Martinho do Porto
Sheltered and calm, ideal for families, swimming, and paddleboarding. Its bay shape creates a natural lagoon where the water stays warm and safe.

Praia de Salir do Porto
Just across the bay, with Portugal’s largest sand dune and a more natural, untamed setting. Perfect for walkers and sunset views.

Foz do Arelho (20 min drive)
Where lagoon meets ocean; enjoy paddle-boarding in calm waters or take in the wild Atlantic surf-side for contrast.

Nazaré (35 min drive)
World-famous for giant waves at Praia do Norte, but also offers gentler beaches near the main town and promenade.

Baleal & Peniche (45 min)
Surfing hotspots with dramatic rock-formations, beach bars and coastal walks.

Óbidos Lagoon
A hidden gem for kayaking, bird-watching or picnicking by calm, glassy water.

Had an amazing stay at Villa Baia in Alfeizerão, the area was quiet and a perfect for chilling out and visiting São Martinho do Porto, Nazaré and Lagoa de Óbidos. The villa is modern, well equipped to a high spec with love attention to detail (Sonos, board games) - it had everything we wanted. The pool was great fun for the kids, we had lots of BBQs and spent lots of time at the beach. Recommend hiring jet skis and pedalo boats at São Martinho do Porto. Restaurante Quilha Mar is a gem - right on the beach, laid back vibe with excellent food and service. Made some wonderful family memories and will definitely be back! Thank you
